 Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) Citation

AFI 36-2803

Key Points to Writing
  • PCS/PCA Decorations will be based on EPRs/OPRs
  • Achievement Decorations read like awards, and will need a narrative for justification
  • DO NOT plan on making up mid-tour points in a PCS medal
  • Ask for HELP, the only person looking out for #1 is you
  • The only person looking out for your Airman is YOU!
  • ASK for/WRITE a Mid Tour decoration
  • WRITE!!! The more you do it, the better you get
  • Use F7 to spell check. Errors reflect badly on you and your subordinate!

The following Example has been taken from a Word Doc.  I have changed mission information to protect myself and the people I have received the information from.  I will attempt to give a little insight to the entire process if I know it.

CITATION

TO ALL WHO SHALL SEE THESE PRESENTS, GREETINGS:
THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF
AMERICA AUTHORIZED BY EXECUTIVE ORDER, 16 JANUARY 1969 HAS
AWARDED
THE MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL

TO

MASTER SERGEANT <FNAME> <MI>. <LNAME>

FOR

MERITORIOUS SERVICE
25 SEPTEMBER 199? TO 1 APRIL 200?

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Master Sergeant <FNAME> <MI>. <LNAME> distinguished himself in the performance of outstanding service to the United States in various positions culminating as Supervisor, Mission Imagery System, Logistics Sustainment Flight, ##th Intelligence Squadron, Air Combat Command, <BASE> Air Force Base, California. During this period, Sergeant <LNAME>’s superior leadership and management expertise were instrumental during Distributed Ground Station-???’s support to Operations JOINT GUARDIAN and ENDURING FREEDOM. He supervised the teardown and build-up of the 25 million dollar Mobile Stretch ground relay station in just half of the allotted time and cleared a 30-foot security zone to protect the critical U-2 data relay station with 900 yards of concertina wire. Sergeant <LNAME>’s actions enabled the vital flow intelligence of Balkan operations and his superb oversight led to a stunning 99 percent mission ready rate for 230 U-2 sorties over the Balkans and Afghanistan. After the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks, he choreographed the seamless integration of the unit’s Tactical Support Equipment to allow the first-ever combat use of the U-2’s beyond line-of-sight, extended tether configuration. He led groundbreaking imagery exploitation and dissemination system upgrades which enhanced target coordinate accuracy by 80 percent and maximize the warfighters’ ability to identify, engage, attack and destroy time-critical-targets. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Sergeant <LNAME> reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
